the first quarter

And suddenly it was April.

I never used to believe my mum when she told me how time speeds up as you get older. Remember how the six-week summer holidays seemed to last forever as a kid? And now three months pass in the blink of an eye.

After opening the studio, most of my year has been focusing on getting my priorities straight. As a Type-A person with an auto-immune condition it’s sometimes hard not to take on too much, to say “yes” to every exciting opportunity and then realise that you have no time for you and you feel like rubbish.

So I have played around with and streamlined my appointment schedule for seeing clients and put a cap on the maximum number of clients I’ll see a week. I’ve made time to do some things for me like writing, and I’m taking part in Kimberly Wilson’s Mindfulness course to allow myself to be more mindful on a daily basis – an ongoing challenge for me I’m afraid!

Peace + Community

Remember my two words of the year back in January? A quarter of the way through the year seems as good a time as any to check in on how I’m doing.

January itself was far from peaceful, due to the three week time slot we had to turn a grotty unloved office space into a serene and beautiful wellbeing centre. There isn’t much peace to be found in a situation where the carpets go down the day before opening I can tell you.

However, now we’re up and running life feels much more on an even keel. Having my own space, my own timetable, my own way of doing things, and a gorgeous team of fellow therapists has really helped me to begin to work at a slower pace. Dare I say there are even moments when I feel at peace there?! I know I still have a lot of work and quite a way to go to create the business I know I want to create but to be slowly getting there feels rather wonderful. Sometimes I walk into the studio and just think “Wow! How the hell did this happen?!”

And then there are the fabulous clients, the little groups of yoga and pilates students, my regular clients, those who just drop in from time to time. Without them this little oasis of peace in the middle of Cambridge’s most populated and built up area couldn’t exist.  And I thank them for their peace and the sense of community that they bring with them every day.

It’s been a pretty amazing three months and I know there is more to come, I can smell change in the air along with the newly cut grass – the sun finally came out this weekend and the whole neighbourhood has mowed their lawns for the first time!

How have your first three months been? What is on your horizon?
